gym, tanning, laundry?

Sunday, March 13th, 2011

The Holy Trinity of “The Jersey Shore”. I think my holy trinity is tanning, gym, home work. Tanning being Brazil Bronze, everything to do with paying attention to the salon and all the fun new products we have in the works. Gym – being working out A LOT – from teaching mega amounts of Burlesque Bikini Bootcamp. Home work is that constant battle, as a working mom, trying to stay abreast of my kids homework. Home work is a nightmare. I didn’t like it as a kid, and I hate it worse as an adult. I think the teachers invent things just for the purpose of torturing the parents. I am forever getting notes telling me how I have failed in some manner or other.

The salon is really fun right now. Lots of cool projects. Someone, who shall remain nameless… who has a really cute reality show – just asked us to help develop a new product line. It feels like a really good synergy – and we have an idea for a REALLY cool new product. So we are really excited to see if we can tie it all together. Then we are working on a project to design incentives for teens to try spray tanning rather than using traditional sun beds. It is an exciting time.

Burlesque Bikini Bootcamp is crazy  busy. All of the classes have been packed. I love it because I am meeting lots of new people – and having fun. Our performance group “The Pink Chardonnays” had a wonderful debut of our Elvis number at Don Hills. We had over 300 people show up and raised money for a friend in need. The girls were such rockstars that they got invited to perform at Mama Gena’s Mastery and The Chelsea room. Three amazing performances in a week. I just feel incredibly grateful to be in the company of such wonderful women, and to have had the opportunity to create the kind of memories that will last a lifetime.

Then the weekend comes around and I have had to wrestle with the homework. I mean it is a joke. My whole family wanted to go to the east village to have lunch and shop in the polish stores. Could you believe the wretched homework project for a ten year old child was so much drama that the entire family had to spend the day as victim to it. I am beginning to see why home schooling  could be of value. And then – when I go to school – I see lots of projects that it is completely transparent that the parents have done the work for the kids. Asinine.  Oh – well – enough blogging for me – I have to get back to the science project. Otherwise I am going to be in trouble….

Backstage burlesque

Sunday, February 13th, 2011

I have been very busy getting ready for a flurry of shows. A very special friend of mine recently got sick. This guy works at Chelsea Studios, and he is one of those people you are sure just has to be discovered at any moment. Tall, extremely handsome and funnier than anyone you know – AND an awesome dancer. We had been talking for a while about creating a class similar to Burlesque Bikini Bootcamp – but for the gay community. An exercise class, with fabulous dancing – but really about creating self-esteem. Sadly – before we got to do it – poor Peter is in the hospital with Lymphoma.

Me and Pink Champagne were shocked – the only thing we could think to do was make a fund raiser. We have a lovely friend who runs the Paper Dolls Burlesque cabaret – and she jumped in to help us. She is a very experienced producer and expediter. Kiki is gorgeous – here she is in the flyer with us

Pink Champagne, Kiki and me

Kiki found us a great space at the club Don Hills and secured the date of February 25th. We asked all of our burlesque friends to leap into action and so many really thrilling performers are set to appear. Kiki does an amazing baton twirling number, my Pink Chardonnays are doing Elvis, we have Kitty Cavalier who is probably my favourite performer of all, Omayra – who is the most sexy, delicious singer – and the incomparable Dame Lori is MC. One of the highlites of the night is that I am throwing together a male cabaret version of “The Full Monty” – my husband and friend Robert are the reluctant stars. I have a feeling they will have a blast when they get on stage. The really sad thing is that Peter was supposed to be the star when I first dreamed of doing “Full Monty”… I am dreaming of the day when we are all on stage dancing together.

I have been spending quite a lot of time online researching strip off-able pants – for guys. It is quite an education. I can’t wait for them to arrive to make sure we can actually make them work. The devil is in the details…as they say.

If you are in town on February 25th please come out and see us at Don Hills. And please can you say a prayer and send love out into the universe for my friend Peter…prayers can really help.

Our new tans are written up in New York Times!

How exciting!!

http://www.nytimes.com/2011/01/20/fashion/20SPOTS.html?_r=1

We are celebrating our 10th year of spray tanning – and, being the snowiest, pale girl on the block I am still consumed with concocting the perfect fake tan. This year  we have come out with some REALLY cutting edge new products. The express tan – where you only need to wait two hours before showering, the MEGA MOISTURIZING formula with hyaluronic acid, that holds 1000 X its’ own weight in water (to keep the skin super hydrated), and also containing ingredients that promote deep collagen production, and our super pure organic formula. Many companies are kidding you with 85% organic  – ours is 95% – the highest grade you can get, and kept refrigerated.

We are so happy that the New York Times wrote about our Luxury Spray Mist for at home use and all the new in-salon services.

Come in and try something new soon. It’s one way to cheer yourself up in a blizzard.
