Spray Tanning Do's and Dont's

Spray Tanning Do's and Dont's

If you're looking to get a sun-kissed glow without having to spend time in the sun, spray tanning is a great option. But before you book your appointment, we would like to provide you with a bit of basic training on the subject. There are a few things you need to know about spray tanning. Here are our top do's and don'ts for getting the perfect spray tan.

Before You Tan, Do's And Dont's

Before you tan, you should consider these tips!

Things To Do Before You Tan

It is always important to exfoliate your skin before you apply tan. This will help to remove any dead skin cells that could cause the spray tan to apply unevenly or create streaky lines.

It is also important to shave or wax any hair that you do not want to be visible. Otherwise, the tanning solution could adhere to the hair and create a darker shadow.

Finally, make sure to wear loose, dark clothing after your spray tan. This will help to prevent the solution from transferring onto your clothes and staining them. By following these simple tips, you can ensure that your spray tan will look its best.

Don't Do This Before You Tan

Avoid using any deodorants or perfumes, as these can react with the solution and cause streaks or uneven colour. They can also create a barrier to absorption.

During do's and don'ts

During the tanning process, you should consider these steps for the best tanning result.

Things To Do's Whilst Your Tanning

If you choose to wear anything at all, wear a swimsuit or underwear that you don't mind getting dirty. Only undress as much as you are comfortable doing.

Take off all jewellery and wear a protective hair cap. Don't forget to take your watch or fitness tracker off too, tanning products can stain objects!

Apply a little layer of barrier cream to rougher-skinned areas, such as elbows, hands, and feet (including cuticles, fingers, and toes), as these areas are more likely to absorb colour and may be darker than other parts of the body.

Make Sure You Don't Do This Whilst You’re Tanning

Avoid stopping and starting the process as this may dry at different times and leave your skin looking streaky.

After Do's and Don'ts

You should also look after your tan after the tanning procedure!

Best Things To Do After You’ve Tanned

Moisturise your skin every day using a superior solution designed for spray-tanned skin. Caution! The longevity of your spray tan may be shortened by the oils and other substances in drugstore lotions.

Use body cleansers and soaps designed to preserve your tan. Avoid harsh soaps and those that contain oils or exfoliants because they can make your tan fade faster.

Use a self-tanner to keep your spray tan looking good in between applications.

Things To Avoid After You’ve Tanned

Do not wash, bathe, take a bath, or go swimming for at least 4 hours following. It should be noted that chlorine will rapidly destroy a spray tan, so we advise avoiding it at all costs.

Do not use bandages or pore strips that will fade your tan.

Use an exfoliant only when you're about to spray again.
