Spray tanning in Las Vegas….

Tuesday, July 22nd, 2008

So I just came back from a pretty funny spray-tanning trip to Las Vegas. I had to go for a couple of meetings and to spray a couple of people.

I travelled there with my business partner Joy and my husband Alex. We had this one particularly funny taxi ride. My partner was sitting up front with the driver – as she suffers from motion sickness – and I was sitting in the back with my husband. We were just returning to our hotel after I had sprayed some one particularly important.

Joy asked me how I had thought the experience had gone. I told her that when it is somebody very important, like that, I get nervous. To which she answered:

“Well you shouldn’t be nervous – they are much more nervous than you and I because they are buck naked.”

At this point the cab driver became very interested in our conversation. He had no idea we were talking about spray tanning – god knows what scenarios were running through his mind. What could me and Joy be doing fully clothed with a naked person in a hotel room…..and what was the guy in the back seat’s role in the situation……

WE completely got the giggles. It was totally surreal running around Las Vegas with our mobile spray tan machine in a suitcase. Every time we put the machine is the trunk of a car my husband insisted on doing it himself – he wouldn’t let any bell boy or cabby touch the darned thing. He treated that machine like it was a piece of gold – or a bomb that might detonate at any second if the wrong person laid hands on it.

Oh…..and I have to express gratitude for the kindness of strangers. When I arrived at the MGM where we were staying I had a spray tanning catastrophe. I had travelled all the way from NYC to do some tanning – and god knows how but the little cup that holds they spray tan solution got completely obliterated in transit. I was like a row boat without an oar. This amazing lady Diane who works at the spa lent me one of her cups …..she actually had the time of day for me and went out of her way to help…..I was really impressed because I am not sure someone in NY would have been as helpful to a complete stranger.

So most people’s trips to Vegas are filled with gambling soddom and whatnot…….mine was filled with spray tanning, naked people (as usual) and being in bed at 11pm (as usual). I have to say – I did have fun though….and as usual it never ceases to amaze me how in 2002 I choose this pretty unusual profession for myself and there is no end to the funny places I end up and the incredible people I get to meet…..
